I (US citizen) am trying to move to Canada with my common-law partner (also a US citizen) who was transferred from a US office of her company. She currently still works for the US branch (but in Canada), but the company has given her a job offer from the Canadian branch, has done a labor market impact assessment, and will be processing work permit applications.

I saw this discussion that seems relevant: https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/temporary-work-permit-and-dependent-children.65689/

but the links there do not work, and the transition table at the Canadian immigration manuals page do not seem to help in locating the information listed in that thread. I am also not entirely sure that that thread is relevant.

I want to figure out if I can move with her. I do not need to work in Canada. I work in the US now and will continue to do so while living in Canada (crossing the border around six times per week). I know that I can generally stay in Canada for about half a year, but having more certainty about whether I will get kicked out after that would be nice.

If you are working in the US you will not be able to cross the border twice daily as a visitor. You might be able to do it for a little while but essentially you will be living in Canada while working even if it is in US. You can't do that as a visitor. You could enter on he weekends and stay across the border during the week.

Apply for an open work permit based on your partner's work permit.
