Hi,

We are sponsoring under the family class. I am Canadian, my spouse in British and we are currently living in Ireland

I am sponsoring my spouse from outside Canada and will be sending in the application this week.

I am a Canadian citizen by birth, at what point during the application can I move to Canada ?

Can I ..
a> move as soon as the application is sent in
b> move after part 1 of the application is processed (currently 91 days)?
or c> do I have to wait the full 10 months until permanent residency is granted to my Spouse ?

any help would be appreciated.

As a sponsor, you may move back to Canada whenever. Your spouse may only visit Canada until his/her spousal PR sponsorship application is approved.

BTW, if you've been living abroad for at least a year, take a look at http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/pub/bsf5087-eng.html. You have the right to import your goods into Canada duty free (with some restrictions) as long as you declare them the first time you go back to Canada with the intention of moving back.

Thanks for the response .. another question

In Ireland my Spouse supports the family with his work. Once I have sent the application pack in, if I move to Canada before my Spouse, can I claim any benefits in Canada without affecting the sponsorship application ?

Yes. So long as by benefits you don't mean anything covered by social assistance except for reasons of disability. Otherwise, CCTB etc are all claimable.
