Hello friends,

I recently have applied for PR being here in Canada under CEC and I understand it takes 12+ months to finally get the PR. My assignment is expected to come to an end by October this year and if it does and if I need to repatriate then I believe I'll have to change my visa office from Buffalo to my home country. I'm afraid this may add to the lead time and honestly, I don't want this to happen. I have couple of questions and these would help me take the best decision-

1. Would it be safe to repatriate once medical is done? Is there any follow on activity after medical that calls for my physical presence here?

2. After what event do you think my physical presence is not required here and I can safely repatriate?

3. I'm currently on a closed work permit. Is it possible to apply for an open work permit based on my PR application? Or, does PR application help getting an open work permit?

4. If at all I need to go back, what would you advise me to do?

Many thanks!
Regards,
Rana

1. It's ideal if you get the medical request before October(you will be close to the finish line assuming all goes well). If you don't change your visa office and there is an interview request, you have to find a way to get to Buffalo.

2. Hard to say...if the visa officer has no concerns, interview may be waived. Keep in mind, sometimes they still request interviews for quality assurance.

3. No and No.

4. a) If you can, find an employer willing to apply for a LMO. They have to show that they were not able to find a Canadian or permanent resident who could do the job. With a positive LMO, you can apply for a new work permit(a closed wp).
b) Some people apply for visitor status. You can not work as visitor, but it may buy you some time as you explore option 4a.)

That's all that comes to mind, may be others will suggest more.
