Hi, I am Mohamed from Morocco, 23 years old. I received an admission for an 8 month certificate program in software development. My case is that in dropped out of university in 2016, I was studying English literature. I found joy in programming started learning it all from scratch, I got so good with time I though of studying in Canada to back up my knowledge as the diplomas are recognized in Morocco for their prestige. Now, I am single, unemployed, my dad has land and many flats as assets. He sold some properties to fill the account, everything is documented as they require such documentation. The amount is about 60k CAD.
The program requires previous coding experience, so I had to pass an interview with the program lead to validate my knowledge and I did pass.

What I want to know, is that what are the chances of getting a study permit. For the reasons of getting back after my study, I would say I want to find a job so I can build a business out of my dad's property as the matter of fact the location of land and flats are being turned into a touristic site, and I do have a house, though not in my name yet. The field of study is very demanded in Morocco.

I really don't know, if you tips, advises, sample letters of explanation, whatever would help prepare the file in best possible shape. Thanks a Looot

Hello Mohamed,

First, see if your approved institution a DLI:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/study-permit/prepare/designated-learning-institutions-list.html

Do you want to stay in Canada after graduation and get a PR? or you're only interested in the credential that you'll be granted post graduation?

You also have a 3 years gap so you should explain that and possibly show work experience proof if you've been working, I think it can all be done through the SOP.

Yes, it is a DLS. I want to stay after graduation and get PR. Yes it all can be done through SOB or LOE, by the way, are they the same? What I want is just generally if it is possible I can get a visa assuming I put forward a convincing LOE.
Thanks

You must know that an 8 months program can still be accepted for a study permit but it would only get you 8 months of PGWP which isn't enough for Express Entry later on, unless you are planning to apply for PNP (e.g Alberta has a stream for international graduates, probably requires 6 months at least of work experience, please do check), or something else.

I would advise you to try the CRS calculator online to see where you would stand with your future credentials and Canadian work experience. You have to plan this well as PGWP is given to you once in a lifetime. Why not go for a 2 year diploma or certificate?

As for the LOE, you need to read from the past refusal experiences in these forums to put together a strong letter. Frankly I think the only strong point you must convince the visa officer about is your study gap, so you have to think of good reasons. I would tell them I was studying from home, and emphasize on the "self-taught" importance in the software industry..

Did you drop out uni completely while you were programming? I actually have been through the same situation, except that I was still registered at uni and I wasn't attending courses so technically it wasn't considered a gap in my case.

I see, well, all of the above mentioned about self taught importance in the software industry didn't work. Would you be able to assist with my LOE? For one year certificate, yes, I ll apply through PNP, the certificate is about software development. Yes, I did CRS, and I score 1000/1200.
