Hi,

I could not find any information on the forum on that, so I thought I could start a new thread myself to keep track, it might help other people in my situation.
I am an October 2017 applicant, I was scheduled for oath ceremony on July 17th but had to postpone because of family vacation abroad (it was planned a year ago with 15 other members of my family so I could not simply change my travel plans). Anyone knows how long it takes to get a new ceremony date? CIC phone number could not give me any information because it is managed by the local office (Montreal in my case)...

I will update this thread once I have a new date, hopefully soon.

Thanks!

Yeah you're right, vacation is more important. How often can one take a vacation, it's only once in a lifetime. "Sarcasm completed". You will need to submit a case specific IRCC webform.

I see that you changed your very aggressive first answer. Who are you to judge me? Each person has different priorities, and to me tgis was the priority because it might be the last time I saw some people in my family. Postponing Citizenship is not an issue if you plan to stay in Canada. My thread is only to get/give information to people who could not attend the ceremony, whatever their reason might be. It was my first post on this forum and I can see that some people are not very open-minded... I hope other answers will be more useful. By the way, the link you posted is irrelevant (like the rest of your post), I do not need to resubmit anything, I provided explanation to IRCC so I am just waiting for the new date.

I only have anecdotal reports, based on which you should expect to be invited for the next ceremony for which they have space available. I would assume that there are less ceremonies in August due to summer vacation, which means most IRCC offices are short-staffed.

So that could be in two weeks or in two months.

I would say it's worth starting to inquire once mid-september comes around. Until then I would suggest to simply wait for a new invite.

All this is assuming that they confirmed your request to postpone. You got some kind of confirmation that you don't need to appear on July 17, right? This is really the only important thing: Make sure that they don't think you abandoned your application.

Yes I sent them documents justifying my absence, and then I called them to be sure they received them.

Maybe take your frustration somewhere else.
Haha, I guess they've turned me and a few others into grumpy old men. In all cases, I still believe oath should take priority over anything else. Unless it's a medical emergency then a person should organize their life around the date given not the other way around. The OP is free to do whatever he wants.

OK, we get your point, but again your post is useless, this thread is to get information or advice for people in the same situation... We dont care what you think is best.

A link was provided in my answer.
And like I said, it was useless. To everyone: you do not need to use this form for postponing your oath ceremony, just replying to the invite email with justification documents is sufficient. Then you can call IRCC at 1 88 242 2100 to get confirmation they received your reply (note that sometimes to talk to someone at this number you need to try several times).

Hi, coming back on this thread. I just received my 2nd invite, oath will be on the 25th of September so a little bit more than 2 months after my first inviter, so not that bad ! I thought it would be longer, but 2 months is OK. So for people who are hesitant to postpone, if you can wait a couple of months then it s not a problem.
