In Canada? Savings? Thats what you do in order to come to Canada in the first place.... Retirement? Not applicable cause you are not saving once you are here, besides you can prolong your retirement like most Canadians

The numbers for income and expenses are realistic numbers (at least if you're in the GTA at around this time).

If you want savings, you have 2 obvious choices:

1. Increase your income - find a better paying job...
2. Decrease your expenses - rent a cheaper place (take note, $1,200/mo is already considered cheap!), don't drive (monthly transit pass is $133 per person), etc. Don't eat hahaha

You can also do three jobs, sleep less and work weekends. This way you are increasing your income

You could shop from dollarama, get groceries from food bank, buy used clothes, live in cheap apartment. This way you will be reducing your cost
