Hi,

I will be studying in Calgary for 2 years and I will be bringing my family along. A total of 6 of us, me, my husband and our four children (ages: 18, 13, 11, 9). My children will be attending public school, close to where we will be staying, and my 18 year old son will be taking short course on animation every now and then. I calculated based on the guidelines by CIC,
-my expanses will be CAD30k x 2 years = CAD60k, and
-my fees is CAD16k for 2 years.
A total of CAD66k.

I showed them cash equivalent to CAD81k and am in the process of selling my house which will generate another CAD130k.
My Study permit has been rejected, the reasons stating my lack in proficient funds.

My question is, how much should I have to live in Calgary and show to the Visa officer?

Thanks in advance

I would budget $4K a month in Calgary for a family of 6. You also need to factor in your travel expenses - probably at least $10K

Note you did your math wrong. $16K + $60K is not $66K.

Also - selling your house will reduce your ties to your home country and may make it more difficult for you to be approved for a study permit - especially given your whole family is coming with you.

Have you check the website below for your children? It seems that you need to budget their school fees (as international student) as well: $250 X 3 + $11,000 X 3 X 2 =$66,750.

Therefore $81K definitely is not enough.

Hi,

I mentioned to the Visa officer that my current house that I'm staying in is in the process of selling. I also mentioned and proved that I have 2 other fully paid houses, though a bit smaller, under my name, we are renting out all along. Also, I mentioned that I have a private limited company which is active, and will be run by my business partner doing commodity business which does not require my expertise till my return.
But I was still rejected under the lack of financial proficiency and the 'Family ties in Canada and country of residence'.

I have my father, whom is in his seventies and staying alone, will be waiting for us to come back and care for him. He is living on the rental from the two houses that we have, which I didn't mention.

By the way, I am from Malaysia and we don't have a Visa office in Malaysia as it has been moved to Singapore and I don't know where to get advice.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks so much.

Will the below details be alright?

Expenses: $4k x 24 months = $96k
Travel: = $10k
Fees: For two years study = $16k
Total $122k

Managed to sell my house and will be getting the money in a week or two. The amount above should be ok for me.

Thanks

Hi,

I will be in Alberta and CBE has said that my children would not need to pay the international rate, but only to pay what the locals pay which is about $200 per year per child, because I am a student in the local university.

Thanks

OK - so you weren't just refused for financial reasons. You were also refused because CIC doesn't think you have sufficiently strong ties to your home country and will return home after your studies. In other words, they believe your primary motive for studying in Canada is immigration. Even if you are able to overcome the financial reasons for refusal - the fact that you are taking your entire family to Canada with you will likely still be a very big problem for CIC and result in another refusal. (FYI - when they talk about family ties to your home country, they are referring to your spouse and children - not parents.)

I think you're really facing an uphill battle since you want to bring your entire family with you.

Based on your most recent post to this forum, it looks like you applied for FSW last year and were refused. If that's the case, you have absolutely no hope of coming to Canada with your entire family through a study permit. CIC knows you are trying to use the study permit as a means of immigrating to Canada with your entire family. You should forget about the study permit route and focus on immigration programs instead.

Very tricky situation indeed.

If you want to immigrate, you show stronger ties to Canada. But, when you want to enter thru study vis, you must show stronger ties to your homeland.

So, you can't best of two worlds!
