Hey Guys - My friend didn't make it to his first citizenship test on Nov 3 . And he did not inform CIC. How long do you think Mississauga will schedule him for the 2nd test?

Take care! Be safe out there (messy snowfall in Toronto)!

The next test date was around 1.5 months for one friend of mine.

This is an abandon of the citizenship application. He didn't show up and he didn't care to call CIC and give a valid reason, I think they will consider him not interested anymore in acquiring his citizenship

Re: @ Mississauga: If first test is skipped, how long to get 2nd/ final notice?

If it is a case of missing the Oath, then i think his application might be abandoned.

I found CIC FAQs on missing the Test per below.

I was sent my first notice to write the test

If this was the first time you were asked to write the test, you can:
•contact us to let us know you missed the test, or
•wait to be automatically rescheduled for another date.

Contact us

You have 30 days from the test date to contact us and let us know why you missed the test. The notice inviting you to the test will tell you how to do this.

The local office handling your application will decide if you have a valid reason for missing the test.

If your reason is valid, we will send you another notice with a new test date. (We will consider this new notice as another first notice in case you miss this new date, but have a valid reason for not attending.)

If your reason is not valid, we will treat you the same as someone who missed the test and did not contact us. (See “Be rescheduled automatically” below.)

Be rescheduled automatically

We will automatically reschedule you for a new date to write the test if you did not attend the test and you:
•did not contact us to let us know, or
•did not have a valid reason for missing the test.

We will send you a new notice telling you the new test date. This will be your final notice to write the exam.

This new test date will usually be two weeks or more after the date of the test you missed.[/i][/i]

Goldine is right: Check OB 476-B http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2013/ob476B.asp

No-shows for a test and/or an interview with a citizenship official —New (effective September 3, 2013)

Prior to OB 476, applicants who could not attend their test and/or interview with CIC staff were scheduled for a second test/interview session or, in some cases, scheduled for a hearing with a citizenship judge.

New Procedures – Administrative closure of applications

Effective September 3, 2013, applicants will be sent one test/interview notice. If the applicant does not show up at the appointed place and time, and fails to provide an acceptable reason for this absence, their application will be administratively closed.

The amended test/interview notice informs applicants that they have 60 days from the date of the first appointment to provide CIC with an acceptable reason for failing to attend. If an acceptable reason is not provided within 60 days, the applicant is to be mailed the attached final notice letter.

Thanks eileenf & Goldline! This is extremely important info...

What does CIC mean by "sending the final notice letter" per above? What would be said in the letter?

That CIC has declared your citizenship application abandoned.

Yup I did, thanks a lot eileenf.

I wonder if CIC still allows to re-take the test if we fail first attempt. I didn't see they mention it anywhere in the bulletin.

This rule has been changed, it’s obsolete OB476B
The new rule under their web site: Abandon procedures, Section: Test or program integrity interviews no-shows

It could take anywhere from 1 month to 6 months.
I know 2 cases who it took approx. 3 months.

With CIC you never know what could happen but with the new procedures in place since August this year, it should be faster than used to be.
