I work for a Christian non profit organization in Norway. I am a Norwegian citizen, my wife has dual citizenship Canadian and Norwegian and we both work for the same non profit organization.
This organization has a sister non profit organization in Canada, and we send missionaries to Canada often. My wife and I have been offered the opportunity to go to Canada as missionaries and work for our sister organization. We are not priests, but we would be doing religious non profit work. We are staff members of the Norwegian organization so we would recieve our monthly salary from our Norwegian employer. I know Norwegians doesnt require a visa to visit Canada as tourists on holiday. Do we need a work permit to do non profit religious missionary work in Canada? How long can we work in Canada as missionaries? What kind of documents do we require to enter Canada as missionaries? As mentioned we would provide for our own food and expenses from the monthly salary from Norway. Our sister organization owns a house in Canada they use for missionaries, so we would be staying there while working.
I read another topic with a similar question to this, somebody from New Zealand had been invited to come to Canada as a missionary. He got the answer that he would be allowed to enter without applying for a work permit since he was doing non profit religious work in Canada. Is this correct? If I remember correctly, I think they told him he could stay for up to two years as a missionary in Canada. Is this correct? What about my wife? What would be best for her? As a Canadian citizen, living in Norway, would she require any special visa or work permits to do religious work in Canada?
