missing citizenship ceremony. Can I reschedule it?

I received a notice to appear 2 days ago and the date is while I am away from the Country. At the test day I told the person who interview me that I am going to visit my family in Nov, and she said they wouldn't put me during the days. Now my father is in critical illness and I don't want to cancel this trip because of the ceremony.
I thought it is possible to reschedule the date but as I was reading all comments and thread this site, I am very worried about that my file will be closed if I didn't attend the ceremony.
Is anyone actually be able to reschedule the ceremony day?
I am writing a letter to the office to explain why I cannot attend the ceremony and hope it will be good enough reason though...

any advice would be appreciated.

Call and reschedule, should be fine instead of missing it. You need to let CIC know you'll be away. The person you talked to before during interview might have forgotten to put a note.
