Minor's application - parent's citizenship information

My wife will shortly become a citizen (yet to take the oath.) We are filling out the forms for the citizenship application of my daughter, who is 7. We will be sending the application out as soon as my wife gets her citizenship certificate.

While filling the form (CIT 0003(06-2017) E ,) I realized that the only place they ask for the parent's citizenship information is in section 8D ("Proof of Canadian citizenship".) However, on reading the instructions, I see this:
"Answer this question if the child's parent acquired Canadian citizenship by birth or by naturalization before February 15, 1977"

Since this does not apply to my wife, we would be filling this section as 'Not Applicable', which leaves us no place to indicate on the form of her citizenship.

Needless to say, I am thoroughly confused as to where my wife's citizenship information goes on the form.

I'd greatly appreciate any clarification.

I looked at the application and the instructions and you are correct.

The reason that they ask about citizenship acquired before 1977 (i.e. under the old act) is that there were multiple ways for such citizenship to be lost, and they want to be sure that the parent is still a citizen. (That's also the reason for asking the question about leaving Canada before 1977.)

Note that in the guide under "Gather Documents," that one of the documents is a photocopy of a parent's proof of Canadian citizenship. So, that is how they would know that your wife is a Canadian citizen.

However, if it were me, I would still enter your wife's certificate number and date in Section 8D, because I would want to make it perfectly clear that your wife is a Canadian citizen. There is no downside to doing so; the application certainly isn't going to be rejected because of it. But, that's up to you.

Thanks alphazip. Indeed I see the following in the section "If this applies to you:"
"Photocopy of the parent's proof of Canadian citizenship, if applicable..."

I agree that it wouldn't hurt to put my wife's the certificate number and date thereof in 8D.

Thanks again for your quick note!
