Hello, I would like to find out what the requirements are for a 4 year old niece who wants to school here. She is a foreign national at the pre school age and am wondering if she needs to apply for student visa to school here, thanks

How does a 4 year old decide to study in Canada?
Like you said, she is not even of school age. What exactly is the plan? who is she going to stay with? Is she being adopted/sponsored by a citizen or PR?

She needs a study permit and she will pay international fees for her education. Estimate $15-20k per year for public school. Since you are PR, you can take on guardianship for her education as her parents will not live in Canada but visit her.

Check with the local school board. They should be able to guide you better on the process. However, if the parents are not holders of SP or PGWP, you may need to pay tuition fees (approximately around $15k/yr., depending on school) even if attending public schools. Plus, you will need a guardian for the minor child. If the minor do get a study permit, the parents cannot apply for work permit on the basis of the child’s SP.

FYI, local school boards may be on summer break for two weeks, starting this week (at least in Ontario they are).

Your previous posts few months ago was about getting authorisation to visit your brother or sister in Canada, now you are PR?
