My boyfriend is coming to visit me in Canada, actually I’m in Mexico with his right now and he’s going to come back with me.. assuming he will be questioned at the border and I’m going to be with him. Will that look bad? What can he bring to prove he has ties to his country? He is 19 years old, he works for himself so i don’t know how he would go about getting a letter from his employer when he is technically his own boss, he doesn’t own a house or anything. He has his passport, eta, we will have his return flight done. I’m so worried about him getting denied at the border and sent home. Just want to be prepared. Should I write a letter for invitation or is there no point since I will be there? It will be his first time travelling anywhere outside of Mexico.

I would contact the Canadian embassy in Mexico I am sure they would have this information for you

You won't be with him, only families travelling together are, well, together. You will go through citizens/pr and he will go through foreigners.

Yes, you should write him a letter of invitation, stating the nature of your relationship, purpose of trip and travel plans. Also it would be a good idea he carries with him proof of means of support, bank statement is preferred.

It looks suspicious that you are flying with him. You have a romantic relationship and it always raises the question if you are not travelling to settle illegally in Canada.

I will be with him because guaranteed he will go to secondary, and I always get my bag searched no matter what so I will too. I feel like they will just figure that out. I don’t think he even has a bank account here in Mexico, so he will only have cash. And I don’t think it will be suspicious that I’m flying with him, as I was just in Mexico visiting him so I don’t have much of s choice unless we wanna go on separate flights haha

And also in Canada there is no separate foreigners/ citizens thing. It’s all the same. Atleast to the airport I land in!

No, it is not guaranteed he will go to secondary.

Bag search is costumes, secondary is immigration. Usually both are done separately by different officers.

Your intentions are suspicious, not the mere act of flying together.

True. My experience is with major airports, like YYC, YVR, YEG, YYZ, YUL. Smaller airports might handle it differently.

Best of lucks.

So my intentions are suspicious because I’m worried ?
