My first job where I joined the firm on Jan 2016 but I haven't got a client project until May 2016. Even though my reference letter says I have been employed with them from Jan - December, my paystubs are being generated from May 1st 2016 and initial first four months are training and finding a project. So do I need to mention case officer that I was on training and on the bench looking for the project until May (or) to avoid confusion, is it better to take a new reference letter from the company with the start date as May until December? (as I read somewhere that unpaid hours doesn't count)

Jan - April: On bench looking for a project + training + unpaid
May - December: Got project + paid.
