Hello,

I recently submitted my coop work permit and got this email from IRCC as follows,

"The results of your immigration medical examination (IME) indicate that you are required to report to a provincial/territorial public health authority (P/T PHA), as you may have a medical condition considered to be one of public health significance in Canada requiring a medical follow-up referred to as surveillance.

The P/T PHA has the responsibility to conduct a medical follow-up according to established protocols. Therefore, you may receive a letter or a phone call from the P/T PHA regarding next steps to completing medical surveillance. The P/T PHA must inform Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) that you have complied with medical surveillance for IRCC to update your file.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, response times and the availability of appointments has been affected. This means it may take longer than 3 months for your appointment to be scheduled."

They also said this: "Failure to comply with the requirements of medical surveillance may have a negative impact on any current or new immigration applications to Canada."

Does this mean they wont review my application until I complete the process? It is said that PHA will contact me and send me the letter but it will take more than 3 months which might effectively delay my work permit application process by 3 months (waiting time for appointment with PHA) plus 6 months (at least to get the surveillance done). I am at a loss right now. Should I contact public health services for inactive TB program or should I wait? I need to get my application process going no matter what. Can someone with the same experience give me some advice. It already sucks that Dec is exam season and I have got this huge mess over my head. I need some answers please :')

To those who are looking for answers on this topic,

I talked to IRCC and turns out the surveillance process wont affect my coop permit application process. I have asked ppl around and it is also the case with PR applications. You just need to call local health authority (city of residence) and they will reach out to you for next steps. You have to wait for them to contact you for that usually (2~3 months at least).

PS: keep in mind that every application might be unique as to how they are processed. Location, type of application, your background everything might be a variation so please reach out to IRCC directly.

Ciao!
