Hey Everyone. Hoping someone can shine some light on this.

Summary of my CEC app

- I sent off my CEC app last year.
- It began being processed by CIC in Feb.
- Results of my medical test were sent on March 26th to immigration

I have yet to hear something from Immigration since the results of my tests were sent to immigration on March 26th. My bridging visa runs out in late August. It is my understanding that I will switch to implied status and can continue to work until a decision is made on my app

HOWEVER, I have a friends wedding in Jamaica in Sept. I will be on implied status and will not be able to go. So I am on the verge of cancelling my flight and accom in order to not be out on a lot of $

My questions are :

1) Has anyone had a similar delay between their medical results being sent to Immigration and confirmation letter?
2) Is there any way I can go to Jamaica on implied status and return to Canada and continue to work? Is there any way to extend your bridge visa?

Thanks,
Diarmuid

There is a "waiting for PPR after medical" thread right on the front page. Maybe there are people in similar situation as you.

If your doctor has already confirmed that the medicals were sent then you have nothing to worry about (so drop all concerns about medicals).

Implied status is meant for people to just "wait" not to keep on doing what they were doing. And as your SIN number expires then you are complicating yourself (CRA doesn't care too much about what CIC does) the "implied status" would allow you to sit and wait but as you don't have a SIN number you can't work.

It is your responsibility to apply for another BOWP. As your file is under process it should be a straight forward thing. You can apply for as many BOWP as needed while your PR application is under process. Hurry up if you don't want your SIN to expire.

I would need to be issued the BWOP in order to continue to work past my bridge visa date. I was under the impression I would just get immediate implied status.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it

CIC does not routinely send confirmations that Medicals have been received.

The more information CIC provides about implied status, the worse the misinformation seems to get : )

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/visa/validity/implied.asp

Implied status has absolutely nothing to do with permanent resident applications, it is only relevant to those who apply to extend temporary resident permits.

Implied status only exists if (a) you apply to extend a work/study/temp resident permit under the SAME conditions (b) you apply before the old one expires, (c) your old one expires before you get a response - then you are on implied status.

If your BOWP expires in August, you can apply for a new one now.

Great. I appreciate that. It seems there is little to no hope for me to get the PR before my brothers wedding though. I was really sure I would have the PR within a month of doing the medical (I did it with two friends who did it at the same time as me and thjey have both got their PR)

How long does the BWOP take to be issued to your address in your experience? If I am to leave on the 3rd of Sept, would that be enough time to get the BWOP if I apply today?

I guess I gotta cancel my bros wedding and hope the BWOP or PR comes before then but I guess at least Im not getting kicked out of Canada!!

Thanks for the advice everyone :)

Hey guys, so my question kinda relates.

When i get to the medical stage of the application, Am i able to apply for an open work permit? I was told that there was a precedent where a friend of a friend did this. I was just curious if anybody knew more about this and had any help as to how i could prepare? Thanks and good luck with your applications.

There is no need for Medical stage to apply for Open WP . Just you need AOR

Thanks

Never ever assume the nice, ideal, average case will apply to you ALWAYS plan for the worst case scenario, or at least plan for delays.

1.5 to 2 months

You are doing it wrong! You can leave as a worker and return as a visitor.... by the time you are back the BOWP should be waiting for you in the mail. Of course you will have to renew your sin card, but you can ask for an unpaid leave (for example) for the days you are with an expired sin.

Does it send any confirmations at all? Dunno..... I know sometimes the status changes to "In Process" to "Medical Recieved". In other cases you have to click the "In Process" to get to the list where it says your medicals were recieved.....

Anyway, CIC may have medicals just sitting there until next revision and then update.... somehow people get the feeling that CIC updates real time (duon't know why).

I think that is true for inland family class applications, and was possibly haphazardly applied to some economic class applicants who were already in Canada (but was never official). Since the BOWP criteria were established, I don't think that is an option anymore... For more info on the BOWP...

Not entirely sure what "visa" you're referring to, but one of the requirements for the BOWP is that you have a valid work permit at the time you apply. So if you mean that your work permit has expired, then you are right, you are no longer eligible for a BOWP.
