Hello,
I am aware you have to complete a medical for spousal sponsorship to enter Canada.
1) I was wondering how long (time) do they look back in what is in the hair?
2) Do they just take the top 1.5inches of hair from the root or do they test all of it?

Thanks

I've had a medical for Canada, and there was nothing involving hair! there is some questions, and based on that, blood/urine sample, and chest x-ray.
Nothing else! not sure where you saw that information. It's a medical to see if you have any contagious disease or specific medical conditions that would make you not admissible to Canada ( for spouses that's really rare), not to see if you've done drugs or smoked anything recently (I suppose that the question about the hair - sorry if it's not related)

Thanks for your reply. Did you have your medical done in Canada or in London? I was under the impression for immigration purposed they take a hair sample to check if you smoke anything etc etc. Do you believe it's different requirements from different doctors?

I did mine in Denmark, but the requirements are the same for every doctor. They have a standard list of questions and they do a quick physical examination (blood pressure, weight, height, vision etc.), and based on that they decide whether they need more tests done (blood test, urine and chest X ray are standard I believe).

I don't see how the fact that you smoked anything would be of concern to CIC. It's not contagious, it's not permanent, and it's not a threat to the health of Canadians, so it's not what they're looking for.

Sorry to ask again, but I made an error he is sponsoring me via common law category, is this the same requirements for medical?

Hair sample is not required and they don't test you to find out if you smoke. The focus is on the empirical data to discover whether you are a danger to the health of Canadians. They do talk about "excessive demand" but there are very few potential illnesses that could affect your PR application!

Good luck!
