Hello, just found this site (wish I'd found it long ago!)
My husband and I are hoping to send his papers off in a week or so...
I noticed that a lot of the posters here have noted that their medical exam was done AFTER they had sent the papers off. My mom had phoned the info number in Canada for me and was told that we HAVE to include the medical form (copy 2) with our application from the get go. We're applying from Ecuador, so the visa office that we're going through is Bogata, and they had told us that they would send us the medical form AFTER they got everything from Mississauga--so the info we've gotten is conflicting...
We've done the exam, just to be safe, as Mississauga is the first step, but I'm just wondering if anyone else has done the same thing that we did? If so, were you required to do another exam later? If that's what we've got to do, that's what we've got to do, I guess...

Medicals are done afterwards for certain types of applications (e.g. parents, skilled worker). However, if you are sponsoring a spouse, then the medical must be done in advance and proof of the medical included with the application. So what you've done is correct.

Sometimes a second medical is requested for spousal sponsorships if the processing of the application takes more than a year and the medical has expired.

Hope this helps...

Those that apply for family spousal PR inland, sometimes get extensions to medicals, not as usual for outland applicants.

They probably misunderstood that this is a spousal sponsorship application. As was mentioned, other types of applicants are asked to submit medicals after sending in their application package. I hope that you are following the country specific guidelines for Ecuador which will confirm for you that you MUST send proof of having completed the medical with the application that you send to Mississauga. You'll find guidelines for Ecuador here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3908e.pdf
