Hi guys!

My common-law partner had syphilis 3 years ago, he has done the treatment. But once you get Syphilis the FTA-ABS test that is used to detect syphilis will always show positive due to the antibodies. It's called the immunological scar.
So when he went for the medical exam, it showed positive and the consulate asks to re-do the exam.

Can Canada reject him based on that? He has done the treatment already and to get a proof he did it, he is undergoing the treatment again and we will submit the paper in the eAPR

Has someone any idea or went through something similar? please let me know, i'm really scared that they reject him

Not the expert here, but highly unlikely that you will ultimately be refused on this basis (spousal sponsorships are 'excessive demand exempt' but are concerned with communicable diseases. But as long as it is treated / under control, will be fine (google this on CIC website).

BUT you will have to jump through a few hoops first!

I am not the expert here, but as they have requested a new exam I would say you would have to go for that, BUT first call the examiner you want to go to and explain the situation and why a re-exam has been called for. If you trawl the internet, you will find a Canadian form for the examiner to complete regarding syphilis (see here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5965E.pdf ). I am guessing that the examiner will want to see proof of treatment.

Perhaps others with spousal sponsorship and experience of communicable diseases would also comment????
