Medical Exam

Hi,

I am in the process of completing my wife's application (not yet submitted). The only part missing is the medical exam. When she called to make an appointment with one of the official medical doctors she was told that they need her UCI#.

According to the CIC website the UCI# is given when the application has been processed. Does she not need to submit her medical exam along with her application?

Thanks for your responses in advance.

She doesn't need a UCI to complete the medical. All she needs is her passport and pictures as per the CIC website. You might want to get her to call again and let them know that this is an upfront medical that is needed to to submit your application. And yes she does need the medical to be completed when you submit your application.

Ask your wife to explain to the panel doctor that she needs what is known as an "upfront medical" The UCI is not required for the upfront medical..actually after its completed she should receive a paper with a bar code and the UCI number for medical.
Proof of Medical does need to be submitted at the same time as the application

Eddie, you could do it this way, submit the application at first, then after few months, you will get AOR with File no and UCI#, then with this u can use it to do the medical and the doctor will help u send it to CIC. Even if u do the medical now, it can get expired with the trend in which inland processing is going.
Thanks

the uci will not be on the medical if it's done upfront. the information on the receipt will be the applicants name, birthday, passport #. There will also be a picture and barcode.

My wife had the upfront medical and on the receipt there was the bar code etc...and a UCI number I have a copy of it here. There was no picture on hers I think perhaps they had done it electronically either that or they really messed things up for us by not affixing a photograph.

perhaps she already had a uci because of a previous immigration application? most applicants don't have UCI upfront because the UCI isn't created until the application is opened and process is begun. Perhaps yours wasn't created in the emedical system? all emedical receipts will have a barcode and picture of the applicant. it's how CIC connects the results to the application in the system.

My mistake guys,
The number is not UCI its written UMI , Hmm guess I will be in for another set back her photo is not attached to the bar code receipt, However there is 12 photos included in our application 10 immigration photos and I also included 2 standard passport pictures of my wife. With a little luck they will just put two and two together and continue on and not cause a problem.

Chris.

Yes everything else is there I just double checked the copy I have here.

It seems no matter how careful we are at trying to get things done properly, errors are still made.

Thank you everyone for your feedback. She has explained to the doctor at least 2 times that she needs the exam for the application and therefore does not have a UCI#.

I'm not sure if she tells the doctor that this is for an upfront medical exam would make a difference but we will definitely give it a try.

On a different topic, my wife has submitted her application for an Open Work Permit (owp). If she gets approved for the owp will this be enough for her to enter into Canada while she waits for her immigration application to get processed?

Just a note, the closest immigration office for Germany now is in Vienna, Austria so the owp and immigration applications will be processed there. Keep in mind we have not submitted her immigration application yet, just her owp. If my wife is allowed to enter Canada with an owp, would it be better to submit her immigration application in Canada once she arrives instead of sending it to the Vienna office while in Germany?

One final question, I am still in Berlin, Germany getting ready to move back to Canada and my wife plans to follow within 1 to 2 months. Would that be a problem? Do we need to enter Canada together?

Sorry for so many questions but it has been so stressful these past few days trying to find answers to these questions. We just want to make sure we process the applications properly and ensure that we are not separated for too a long period since we are newly married.

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Yes it could make a difference my wife had that problem too when she called to set an appointment they told her she needed a UCI. I had her call back to clarify that it is an Upfront medical that was required and there was no problem after that clarification

Your wife needs to tell them that she wants an upfront medical exam, cause she is applying under the Family Class (Spouse) category. It's the only category that requires a medical exam upfront.

Even if you wait for CIC to ask for the medical (although you are running the risk for your application to be returned), they will not give you an UCI. When your file reaches Mississauga, all the documents inside are being reviewed, and if something is missing, they either return the application back or tell you to provide the document for them.
For Family Class applications, they don't issue the form for medical nor the UCI, they just tell you to get an upfront medical exam.

If the doctor refuses to give you an upfront medical exam, you should report them to CIC. They are obligated to follow CIC procedures.

If you sort it out, after the medical exam, you should get a paper called eMedical which has all your wife's info (DoB, Name, Passport No., etc.) and an UMI number (Unique Medical Identifier). Include this paper with your application, CIC will use the UMI number to match your wife's medical (from their data base) to her application.

Thank you. It makes sense. My wife tried again for an appointment but I think the doctor who does the medical exams for the CIC was not in and was asked to call back on Friday.
