Medical exam turned into a immigration interview??

Hi everyone,

I am sponsoring my husband to come to Canada and we are now at the very last step of the process. The embassy emailed us and asked that we redo the police checks, medical exam and to pay the Right of Permanent Resident fee. My husband went to redo his medical exam, it had been expired for 3 years (yes that's how long we've been waiting). During his medical exam, the doctor seemed more interested about why I was not living in his country, how long we'd been together, what he will do when he is here, what I will do when he is here, etc.. as well as questions about his criminal past (which he has been rehabilitated for, hence why we've waited so long). The exam felt like it was an immigration interview more than a medical exam.. We've already satisfied the Canadian embassy that our marriage is legitimate and as I said previously, we went through the process of criminal rehabilitation, which he passed and we have official proof.

Of course now my husband is extremely worried as he was expecting to go for a medical exam only so he got really nervous when the doctor started asking him so many questions. Have any of you ever gone through this? Is this normal for a medical exam and can the doctor make negative recommendations to the embassy that have nothing to do with medical results?

Thanks!

That is definitely unusual. Was the doctor a regular CIC panel physician Dr accepting patients privately? Just out of curiosity , which country/dr are we talking about?
Unless the Dr. is in parallel a CIC immigration officer (which is unlikely) i'm in doubt his "interview" has any meaning, he was probably just curious having some extra time on his hands.

Yes the doctor is a CIC panel physician, she came up on the CIC website so we decided to make an appointment with her. She also does US immigration exams as well as Canadian exams. This is in Lima, Peru. I figured that she might have just been curious or is just so used to talking to applicants that she may feel that she can help them with the process... not really sure but it was certainly unusual.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Besides, as you say you have nothing to hide and all the immigration issues such as criminality, etc were already resolved. Have a great weekend.

This is not a normal medical exam, but I also think that there is nothing to worry about. The doctor cannot make negative (or positive) recommendations to the embassy about things that have nothing to do with the medical. Most likely the doctor was just curious and is a chatty person by nature.
