I am a canadian citizen, my boyfriend is Australian. He was here in Canada on a work permit but it ended. I am sponsoring him under common law. He has gone back to Australia until we can get him his residency here.
My question regarding Medical exam:
I see a list of about 8-10 places in Australia that he can go to get this done, however he is 10 hours drive from the closest one. Does anyone know if there are any exceptions to this? I am finding this whole process extremely frustrating with a bunch of road blocks. please help!!

I don't think there are any exceptions, at least I've never heard of it.

If he were planning to pay you a visit again any time soon, he could possibly do his medical there but that obviously would delay the application. Similarly, if he has any other overseas travel plans sometime soon, he could use that as an opportunity.

Failing that, I think he's gonna have to make that 10 hr trip.

I think the bad news is, he has to make the trip :( My husband had to drive 4 hours for his medical... just one of those things you have to do!

I read similar stories of people in the forum about the topic. In some countries the applicant had to travel 4 hours by flight and additional travel from the airport to the DMP office as well as the distance to the airport from thier home town and back.
