Hi everyone,
I’m seeking advice regarding my PR application under the CEC, which was refused because the officer wasn’t satisfied I had the qualifying work experience. After reviewing the GCMS notes, I filed a reconsideration request in August, submitting evidence showing the officer missed key documents, such as pay stubs, T4 slips, and my Notice of Assessment (NOA). A licensed immigration consultant reviewed my case and confirmed it was a clear procedural error by the officer.
On December 3, the tracker showed my medical exam validity was extended to November 29, 2025, even though my medical had expired in September and wasn’t updated until late November. However, my file is still marked as closed in the tracker, and there hasn’t been any other updates since.
Does an IME extension after filing a reconsideration request suggest a positive outcome, or could it just be a procedural update unrelated to the case’s status? I’ve seen that IME extensions often indicate eligibility is passed for regular applications, but I’m unsure if this applies to reconsideration files.
Also, is it normal for IRCC to update the IME for closed or dormant files?
For context, I no longer reside in Canada, which I understand might disqualify me from the automatic IME extension policy. You can find the relevant policy here: Medical exams for permanent residents.
I’d greatly appreciate any insights or advice from anyone who has experience or knowledge about similar situations. Thanks in advance!
