I am applying for a permanent residency via Family (Spousal) Sponsorship. On the CIC website it states that,

CIC said:
Your medical exam results are valid for 12 months only. If you do not come to Canada as a permanent resident within that time, you may need to have another exam.

Nevertheless, the time to process my application may take longer than 12 months. Does that mean I'd have to take another medical?

Also, my wife and son hold Canadian passports. The CIC website states that,

CIC said:
If you apply for permanent residence, you must have an immigration medical exam. Your dependants must also have a medical exam, even if they are not coming with you.

Does this apply to them, too? It seems excessive to drop $1200 on medical exams when two-thirds of the exams are irrelevant to my health

EDIT: I just found an answer to my second question elsewhere on the CIC website.

CIC said:
Important information: Members of your family who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents do not need to pass a medical examination.

If your medical expires before CIC approve your application then 1 of 2 things may happen.

1. They extend your medical results, normally for a year. This is done without your involvement, they may tell you they have extended it but they can do it without your knowledge
2. They ask you to do another medical

Remember that the route they take will depend on which visa office is processing your application as different VO's behave differently.

My husband had to have another medical but we were told in the letter if our non accompany dependent was still not coming he didn't need a new medical .

Thanks for the replies. Any ideas what the London VO does? The reason I ask is because the nearest doctor that can do a medical is 2.5 hours away, has a 2 month waiting list, and charges $395 per medical, so I'd prefer not to have to do it twice!

Either is a possibility, unfortunately.

We're only at the beginning of the process and this is something I'm already dreading. It cost £1,200.00 for our medicals so if we get a request for re-meds further down the line we'll be broke.

This whole process is expensive but i guess it's money well-spent in the end.
