Any folks here who have moved from the US to Canada with an infant? We will be moving to Toronto soon with our 5 month old child from the US. Our child is a US citizen and doesn’t have a Canadian PR. My wife and I got our Canadian PR before the kid was born. We will start our child’s Canadian PR process as soon as we move to Canada. We know that our child won’t have any government sponsored healthcare till she gets her own PR which can take about a year.
Anyone in a similar situation here? We had a few questions:
1) Did you buy private insurance for your kid? If yes, any insurance providers you’d recommend? I anticipate frequent doctor visits since the baby is so young.
2) How is the overall quality of medical care for babies in Canada? In the US, we have almost no wait times with our pediatrician and get same-day appointments easily. We also have on call nurses available 24X7. I have heard many horror stories about Canadian healthcare such as folks not getting quick appointments with pediatricians, pediatricians not accepting patients without referrals, not being able to get appointments with specialists for several months. I want to hear first hand experiences of folks who have moved to Canada from the US with infants and if you have good pediatrician recommendations for the GTA area.
