I was contacted by a producer for CCTV America (Chinese Central Television's new USA based service). They would like to do a short interview early next week with someone who is in GTA who is applying for citizenship now or soon. It doesn't matter what country you immigrated from. The interview will be in English.

Please contact me ASAP if you are interested.

Actually, they're interested in interviewing anyone in GTA who currently has an application pending and who can speak about their experiences. Please let me know if you're interested!

That's good. But if they are looking for real horror stories, maybe they should interview someone from Winnipeg. ;D

Well, not only do us Winnipeggers have to wait years to even get a test--we have to do it in negative 60 degree temperatures half the year.

hahha oh winterpeg...I used to live there and then moved to Vancouver.
Move to Vancouver for better weather. As long as you have a job here you can afford to live.

I will move to Vancouver if I get a job there. But the cost of living scares me! My friend's house which is a decent house is about $1M. WT%!

...to get back to the subject, there's a journalist out there who is asking to hear our opinions...so if citizenship applicants (those same amongst us who feel that no one will listen to us and we have no voice) would like to take advantage of this opportunity for our voice to be heard by people in the outside world (rather than the internet echo chamber) please get in touch.

While I can see the importance of this interview with CCTV , I am wondering how come there is NO Canadian station is picking up this story? I cannot get my head around to the fact that this new citizenship act is about to bring so many drastic change and the media outlets here in Canada seems to be ignoring the story. They just ran a piece with minister on the day for about 10 mnts on ctv national and that was it!! gotta love it!

Western Canada is Tory heartland, they know more naturalize citizens in western Canada equate less vote for them. Fewer citizenship judges and CIC staffs equate less immigrants.

— "You've got to remember that west of Winnipeg the ridings the Liberals hold are dominated by people who are either recent Asian immigrants or recent migrants from eastern Canada: people who live in ghettoes and who are not integrated into western Canadian society." Stephen Harper-Report Newsmagazine, January 2001.

I am sure that people are worried that if they accept to get interviewed, their application will suffer !

This is another thing playing in favor of the Tories nowadays! Immigrants always feel that they are in danger!

Anyways everyone, I really would love to see that someone who is speaking here anonymously would have the guts to stand up and tell the truth to the media - this is a charter protected right and nobody can hold you accountable for saying the truth about the way your applications are getting processed!

A Lot of people are standing up and speaking, Eileenf did it on several occasions, and some other activists did too - so don't worry and if you want things to move for everyone, then let's act as a group and not as individuals! That's also what it means to be Canadian!

That's the sense I got. Applicants don't want to put out their names in the open.
I don't mind being in touch with the media. But they need applicants from GTA and I have to ask my wife lol :p
Would a Quebec applicant be worthy for the CCTV? Eileen?

I absolutely understand that. As an American I grew up with the idea that everyone has the right to speak their mind and question authority without retribution, so it's a little easier for me to speak up than some others who grew up in places where speaking out can threaten one's livelihood, family and well-being. Also, my husband and daughter are citizens, so it is *only* my own citizenship that is pending, not my entire family's. So I understand that I've got some privileges. Also, people look at me and listen to me and *think* I am Canadian.

But, unless you say in your interview that you applied fraudulently or lied or are unqualified or are DB Cooper or a terrorist, the CIC will not punish you.

Ironically, in the US and Canada, speaking to the press can sometimes lead to faster processing or resolution of the case since the agency doesn't want bad PR. This is what seems to have happened with the 40 year Canadian resident from Germany who got RQ and Judge's hearing. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/longtime-resident-seeking-citizenship-hits-bureaucratic-wall-1.1991517 After questions from press, the need for a Judge's hearing was cancelled, speeding his application by months or years.
