Me + Wife + Mother in Law?

Hi,
I plan to apply as skilled worker and will bring my wife and my twins (2 years old).

The problem is my mother in law lives with us, she is 65 years old, needs our support,
helps take care of the children and we would of course love to have her with us.

Can my wife put the papers to sponsor her mother immediately after getting her permanent residence?
Can we have my mother in law staying as a tourist? with us until she gets approved?

We really can't leave her alone back in our country of origin...

1. No, you and your spouse have to meet the low income cut off from Canadian sources in the year prior to the application for your mother in law.
2. Unlikely as the application will take 4/5 years for approval I somehow doubt that she will be allowed to remain a visitor for that long.
3. If you can't leave her, then you have a decision. Its harsh, but you either leave her or you don't emigrate.

Well put PMM its a hard decision for some and most don realize how long it takes to sponsor a family member ,but by the time she is processed if she is she will likely be close to 69/70 years old.But there is one thing you can try and for how long it works is anyones guess.You can immigrate get her a visitors visa,start her process,and when he visa expires apply for the extension,now how long or if they do extend is anyones guess,if she is in process and being 65 they may let h stay with you if you explain the circumstances,just as long as you are prepared that she can be at anytime made to return to her homeland.Now its up to you do you put a 65 year old woman through the worries she may be sent home or her visa not extended at anytme.
The whole decision comes to you and what you think she can handle.And if she is sent back home because of the visa are you prepared for this.

ps as PMM said you must meet the minimum income requirements to even start a process on her and you need to get a years worth of income to prove this.Check the income requirements on the website because the more people you have the more it is.2 adults 2 children and a retiree.
