Hi all

Background info below:

University applied for: McGill University
Start date: 2 September 2014
Date of acceptance letter received from McGill: 25 June 2014
Passport: United Kingdom – British Citizen
Residence: Hong Kong

I have just sent off my supporting documents to Immigration Québec for a CAQ (understand without a CAQ one cannot apply for a Study Permit). Understand I have to wait for the approval letter before applying for a Study Permit.

Queries:

1) Study permit processing times for Hong Kong VAC is 8 weeks, if I submit my application online is it still 8 weeks (I could not find any information on this)? I have done the checklist and am eligible to apply online
2) If the answer to Q1 is still 8 weeks for an online application Hong Kong, can I apply via another VAC which has a shorter processing time? I think New Delhi is 3 weeks only?
3) Is there anything that can be done to expedite the processing times - let the VAC know its urgent?
4) Worse case scenario: If I need to defer my studies to Winter 2014 (due to delays in the study permit application) – will I have to redo the entire application process again?

Thanks.

1. You can select VAC based on your nationality or legal status, not just any VAC.
2. Deferral: You don't have to repeat the whole process if VAC request you to submit a letter of deferral (from McGill), all you need to submit LOD + PP.

Thanks for the helpful feedback. Called VFS and was told best to wait for the CAQ to arrive before submitting as it may lead to even further delays without a complete package. VFS also advised that we can put a cover letter / post it note on the application package to highlight the urgency of the application...

Go McGill! ;D
