Hello, there is a friend who is on visit (visitor visa 6 months in on year) to Canada, he is taking care of his cousin who got in an accident, he been here for six months, also has US visa he keep asking if it is ok to go to the US for three days and then comeback on January 2020 to Canada ? or that will give him a problems on re-entry ?

Border runs are risky. If he wants to stay longer, he should apply online to extend his stay.

Just as canuck as said it's risky. Let him go for extension of stay with documentary evidence of reason why he need extension. He may be re-examine on entry by CBSA officer at POE. Moreover, if he holds Canada multiple entry visa, he may not get a new 6 months stamp on re-entry.

He should also include proof that he can financially afford not to work in Canada. The fact that he is caring for a family member could be an issue if that is considered work a Canadian could be doing.
