I was trying to find more information on Maternity EI benefits permanent residents could access. I am currently working in Canada and looking forward to apply for maternity leave but as my husband works in US. We are planning to have baby delivery in States.

Since I worked in Canada and eligible for benefits, would I be able to claim them while staying in US?

Thanks

In order to claim benefits for maternity leave, i believe the rule is you have to work at least 730 hours prior to having the baby. This is pretty easy to do, since that technically adds up to 6mo and women are pregnant for 9ish months. i do not know if you can claim the benefits while not living in canada, though i would lean towards no since there are probably some sort of residency requirements that are either a part of your healthcare or similar to it. hopefully someone more informed can help answer that part of the question. I would also recommend reading up on Maternity leave and EI on your province's and service canada's website, or calling them to ask anonymously.
