Hi !
I am in a tricky situation. I have been studying full-time at McGill since Fall 2012. My study permit is valid till August 2014. I have completed all my graduate course requirements. However, my Master's thesis has been held back by my supervisor. I have been trying a lot to work it out. However, he seems to have intention not to approve my thesis.

I just received a job offer at Ericsson Montreal. It looks like I have to drop my Master's thesis and start my job. Will I be able to receive a PGWP? If not, is there any other way that I can obtain a work permit? I have only received an official offer letter and no other documents from Ericsson.

Any help much appreciated!

You must complete your studies (i.e. graduate) to qualify for a PGWP. Are you going to graduate? Is the school going to award you a degree? If not, then I don't see how you will be able to obtain a PGWP. In that case Ericsson would need to obtain an LMO/LMIA before you can apply for a work permit.

Thanks ! I will not be regarded as a graduate if I drop my thesis.

Is it OK to ask LMO from employer? Will I be able to apply for CEC later if I drop out and work with a temporary work permit?

Your employer is the one who must obtain an approved LMO/LMIA - this isn't something you can do. So yes - you'll need to speak with your employer. Note that they will first have to advertise the job for a month to prove no Canadian could be found for the role and they will also have to pay a $1K processing fee. The processing time can be up to 20 weeks for the LMO/LMIA.

Yes - you will still be able to go the CEC route if you do the above.
