Hi all,
I did my Masters from Queen's University (Research based, finished the degree in 16 months). Now, I have been working (under post-grad work permit) in Canada (study, work both in Ontario) from May 2012. I am looking to applying my PR. I am wondering which class would be suitable for me to apply. Should I apply under 1) skilled worked or professional or 2) Canadian experience class. Or as a provisional nominee? Which is the faster process or best for me.. Please advise.... Thanks in advance...

I just found that I have to apply under CEC. But since I have 10 months of work experience, should I have to wait for 2 months to apply or can I apply right now?

No - you can't apply right now. You don't qualify.

To qualify for CEC you need 12 months of full time experience after the date of your graduation / convocation.

Thanks for the reply. I was a Research Assistant (20 hrs/ week) during the entire period of my Masters for which I got paid and I have my T4 for the corresponding tax filings. I am wondering if that will quality for part-time work.

For CEC purposes any work completed while you were studying doesn't count. So unfortunately you can't count your research assistant work. Only the experience you obtained after graduating / convocating counts.

Ho okay... Thanks for your response... Probably I will have all my documents ready and apply in May...
But, just one more question.. Does the Provincial nominee system work for my situation? Which one would you advice me to go for, CEC or provincial nominee scheme?
Thanks again...

I don't know. You'll have to read through the criteria to qualify.

If you are eligible for PNP right now, you can go for that! Otherwise you have to get more work experience before you go for CEC. You can check processing times here although they really seem to vary on the CIC website (search for "cic processing times")
