My common-law partner (same sex) has an uncle in Manitoba and we would like to apply in the provincial nominee program. However we have a problem, his family doesn't know about our relationship and in the MAS (Manitoba Affidavit of Support), his uncle has to fill up the questions "name of principal applicant" and "spouse".

Can we leave the "spouse" question blank and yet have my name written as accompanying him?

How can we apply for the provincial nominee under the family support stream if we do not have to let his family know about our relationship?

Thanks in advance.

I believe that you'll have to disclose your relationship in order for your partner's affidavit of support to be valid. If you are not legally married or recognized as partners in your home country, you may not have to disclose such information.

If you are unwilling to disclose your homosexuality, I suggest that you find another method through which to immigrate to Canada. Another possibility is for your partner to immigrate to Canada, and then you follow as a spouse on a new application.

I wish you the best of luck.
