Hi! i would like to ask questions about sponsoring my husband who is an american citizen to move here in canada. We got married in U.S this February and we were married in a confidential marriage license. We only got married in the office window by the clerk county office and no witnesses or celebration after marriage because we just wanted to prioritize the papers first in order for us to process the application right away and then after we finished everything we are actually planning to have the official wedding party in our homeland. We've been together for already 5 years and our relationship is totally genuine no fraud intentions. All we wanted to happen is to start life together. Could you please share some tips on how we are gonna be able to process our papers as easy as possible? Thank you.

It will probably be a red flag. So I would add a statement with my app, trying to explain this issue.
Also, try to give as much evidence that you were together for 5 years. For example pics from few years ago (with family and friends too), flight tickets showing trips and visits. communication between the two of you etc.

Ok thanks for the tip. We have photoes and messages even the trips we’ve been together. I’m just concerned about the “confidential” part.

For most cases, what would be a good reason to defend the “confidentiality”?

I think you are best to be honest about your intentions and the reasons why you did it this way. Why did you do it confidentiality?

Actually, we didn’t get a clear understanding the classification of both licenses, we actually thought that it is no big deal weather its confidential or its a public one.. we just wanted to be married so we could be together and also we want to start processing the papers so that the sooner we start the sooner he’ll come here. Thats it...

I would add this explanation to the app. At least try to show that you relationship was public (pics, facebook etc). Its not "normal" to hide your marriage and not have any guests, so they will look into it for sure. The more clear youll be as for the reason, the less chance for problems.

I also would like to ask about this part of the requirements for spousal sponsorship which is:
Proof of Contact: Provide letters, printed text messages, emails or social media conversations, or other documented proof of
contact between you and your sponsor. Provide a maximum of 10 pages with your application. You must provide certified
translations in either English or French of all proof of contact documents that are not already in English or French.

Do i really need to translate our conversations in english or i should get a legal translator for this? I want to get a clear take on this since all our text messages and conversations are in our own native language and not english. Help please. Thanks!

Hmmm thats new. Its wasnt required few months ago..

Unless stated in your checklist, you must attach the following for any documents that are not in English or French:
  • a certified copy of the original document; and
  • the English or French translation; and
  • an affidavit from the person who completed the translation.

Also, me and my husband didn’t get to have any wedding photos since it is just done over the office window and didn’t have time of enough planning about the situation but of course we have plans of having a celebration back home after everything is done. Can i just make a written statement in support of this explaining why we don’t have wedding photos?
