I am a Canadian citizen, my fiancée is finishing his student visa in February. We would like to get married and I'd like to sponsor him for inland processing. His visa expires so he cannot go back to the US. he currently has a multiple entry Canadian visit visa. What is the best route to follow? Marry in the states and cross the border to process or cross the border and marry in Ontario. What are the risks of the former situation?

Is it okay to tell the border that you are married and planning to process the PR application? Anyone who has previous experience in this area, advice is greatly appreciated.

I can't speak as to where the best place to marry is, but I can speak to having crossed the border into Ontario after marriage. When I said I was coming to visit my husband, the officer asked to see my marriage certificate. It hadn't arrived yet, but I had the solemnization of marriage paper and he looked at that briefly. I also stated that the purpose of my visit was to work on filing the paperwork for my Outland PR application, as well as spend time with my husband and his family. He had asked how long I would be staying, he had asked about my occupation (I'm self-employed), but nothing beyond that. I wasn't asked to show my lease or other proof of ties, such as a return ticket, though I had all of those things readily available. Your mileage may vary in that department I assume. I crossed via Greyhound and so there were quite a few people being pushed through at once, and he maybe decided not to take the time to look at all that stuff so as to not slow things down.
