Marrying a Colombian

Hello, my first posting here. Hi everyone!
After the holidays I am arranging to getting married to my Colombian fiancee in Colombia. I am Canadian citizen and will travel there for the ceremony as she and her family requested I should not only visit for a month but also to enjoy the warm weather as well. I have no immediate family here in Montreal ( my 2 children are both married and living in Europe). I am 57 years old, own my own home and have my own successful business ( shoe store ). I met her 2 years ago in Colombia while on vacation and since then I have been going 4 times a year to be together. She never saw Canada as she was always working full time. My question is if after we get married and submit all the necessary documents, is it possible the she can be accepted for PR within 7 months ? I know that the waiting time is more like 12-14 months but the reason I am asking is that a very similar couple like us that were married in April this year in Colombia are now together in Canada. Can that be possible ? I asked the husband and all he said was that he just applied with all the documents requested and had no issues whatsoever. I am aware that it varies from case to case but 7 months??

It really depends on the VO and their workload. Anything is possible and as long as you provide them with a complete application with all necessary documentation, then I don't see why it can't be completed in a short time period. I would look at the posted timelines for the VO for Colombia to get a better understanding. Remember, its not just about the similarities between circumstances, it will also heavily depend on the caseload of the VO that has to process the paperwork

Is there a big age gap between you two? If she doesn't need an interview the processing will be a lot faster. You have to make sure you explain or provide proof for any possible red flags.

She is 49 and I am 57. I have discussed with her that we can do 2 things after marriage. She can apply for a tourist visa which takes about 20 days to get and she can travel with me to
Canada and we can wait out the PR process there, or she can remain in Colombia for around a year for the process to complete. I prefer the 1st option as she has family ties in Canada, two grandchildren and a daughter. Also that she can get a head start in learning French than waste a year waiting. I am worried that if she does get a tourist visa and the visa expires before the sponsorship process is completed, that she will be sent back to wait out the balance of the months. This will cause more travel for both of us as I will have to go there and visit her from time to time. It will be like 10 return trips already for me.

If she gets a visitor visa, it may only be for 6 months, or even less, but she can apply to extend it about one month before it expires. People who are visiting Canada while waiting for the sponsorship process are usually given more time.
Note that to get a TRV she has to show proof of ties to Colombia. The visa officer wants to know that she will leave Canada at the end of her stay (if, for example, she is refused the PR visa). She should show things like proof of employment, a letter from her boss giving her time off, a return ticket, proof of investments, money in the bank, etc.

With a Canadian husband, a daughter and grandchildren in Canada, the chances of being granted a TRV are pretty low. Those are very strong Canadian ties and it will be difficult to show stronger Colombian ties.

Keep in mind, these can also be considered red flags in the sponsorship application as well, since the daughter and grandkids are what CIC calls "pull factors", meaning they might believe the applicant is marrying to reunite with her family

To the OP, you dont appear to have much of an age difference and I dont know what the rest of your relationship profile sounds like but I would recommend writing an explanation to show why ur wife is marrying u because she loves u as the main reason not because she wants to be w her family in Canada
