Married while on refugee WP

Hi All,

I am currently on WP (Refugee), which is valid till January 2025, my hearing is on the 17th of October 2023, safe to say Im very nervous about it.

My girlfriend who is a citizen, suggested us getting married. Can I postpone my hearing to get the legal paperwork done for marriage and apply for sponsorship? Or should I go ahead with my hearing?

You should go ahead with your hearing. If you withdraw your claim, this will activate the removal order.

If you are in a genuine relationship with your GF, you can certainly get married and she can sponsor you for PR. Make sure you have the evidence to show you are in a genuine relationship and not getting married for the purpose of finding an easier path to PR. You need to keep your refugee application active while your GF sponsors you in parallel. Do not withdraw the refugee claim.
