Hello everyone,

I've been accepted in a Masters in Canada and will begin applying for my Student Permit.
I have some doubts that I couldn't find the answers anywhere, if anyone could help me, I'd be very grateful.
I am applying for the Student Permit as a single person, however, me and my girlfriend were thinking of getting married (after i sent my visa application) and after one or two months of me being in Canada, she'd apply for a visa as my spouse, for a full time work permit also.
Is there a flaw in this plan? Is there a minimum marriage duration for applying with a companion?

Thanks and best regards

Hello, are you in a common-law relationship with your girlfriend for at least 1 year? If so, you can apply together for your SP & your girlfriend's OWP.

Hi Babies0625, thank you for your reply.
We are not on a common-law relationship or married, we are just boyfriend and girlfriend and never shared an apartment, for instance. I cannot wait for our marriage certificate or else I'll miss the beginning of classes.
Our plan was this:

I apply for a SP as a single man, and just before I travel, we get married. Then she, with our marriage certificate, can apply for a spouse visa, claiming her husband is already studying in Canada. However, the marriage date will be in a very small time, do you think that will matter for any of our visas?

Thanks and best regards

Oh ok, yeah you need to apply as single then.

Not quite sure if the length of marriage date will affect your future wife's application what would really matter is both your ties in your home country as a reason to come back after studies, especially for her her ties in Canada will be strong once you will be there, she can prove her ties then like family, job, properties, business etc.
