Hello there! We would like to know whether a marriage certificate that was issued 3 years (in Canada) would be accepted or not? My wife is saying that all documents have to be freshly issued in order to be accepted. Does this apply to marriage certificates too? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes it would be accepted. Similarly, just as a divorce certificate which would likely be 'years' old by the time you would need it for this purpose, would also be accepted.

In some other countries the birth and marriage certificates issued by the government are a full page paper with stamps and signatures on them, my husband has also mentioned to me about birth certificates expiring. However, Canada issues permanent certificates that are smaller on coloured paper with holograms and stuff (for birth certificates anyways, my marriage certificate is from Costa Rica) and you would only ever order a new one if you lost the old one. Double check as well because for Canadian birth and marriage certificates I believe that they only want a photocopy. For the Costa Rican certificates that I needed to provide, I sent them originals but I didn't send them anything original that was issued by the Canadian Government except the Option C printout.
