I am currently applying for a marriage certificate online, I know for spousal applications I need a photo copy. I didn't know what type of certificate I should be getting - file size (Marriage Certificate) or Certified Copy of Marriage Registration (Long Form) for immigration.

Sorry if this has been asked before, I couldn't find it myself and am trying to make sure I don't make any mistakes. :)

Hi CW, the long form is the one you need for immigration and if possible get 2 originals.

The long form is the best form as it will contain yours and your spouse's signature. This will give your marriage more strength in its being genuine. If however your marriage was performed inside Canada, then either form will do. CIC can confirm your marriage certificate as being valid since there is a record for them to find. In any case CIC will accept photocopies of long form certificates containing signatures. There are certain countries that CIC will require original marriage certificates.

Since our marriage was performed in Canada, we submitted our photocopy of our marriage certificate, the short form.

We got married last august 24, 2013, where can i get certified copy of marriage registration? Thanks
Hello there firsttimemom and congrats on the marriage and pregnancy. Where did you get married? If it was in Canada you need to check out the registrar's office in your specific province or territory. It is usually fairly easy to search it out online. If your husband is the Canadian he should know and/or the person who performed your marriage ceremony should/could provide you with that information.

Blessings.
