Hi there,

I'm applying outland and recently got married on July 23rd in Ontario, Canada to a Canadian citizen(I'm American). I requested the marriage certificate a couple days after (July 25th) as a lot of people have suggested on here. I'm getting VERY close to having all my documents ready and should be getting my FBI clearance next week. I will have EVERYTHING I need for the application other than the marriage certificate.

Should I wait until the marriage certificate comes before submitting my application? (I've heard some people only waited 5 weeks and some people had to wait as long as 13 weeks before their certificate arrived)

Should I just submit the solemnization of marriage and explain I'm waiting on the certificate and will send ASAP?

I need to submit my application ASAP because my work permit ends December 27th and I really would love to keep my job...meaning I need PR by then.

HI,

according to my knowledge, you can submit your case with proper explanation of why you didn't submit the certificate and when will you submit.

but you can request any senior member for the guidance regarding subject matter, and posting your query/question into relevent page would help you out to get positive response.
below link is for your information.

I don't think you can have a PR done by Dec 27th to be honest. When you are applying under the Family Class, I think it might be best to include the proof of Family. That's just an opinion.

I obtained my marriage certificate (Ontario) in 2.5 weeks. I applied right after I got married (got married Saturday and applied Monday). I personally would not submit the application without the marriage certificate. Sometimes entire applications are returned as incomplete for that reason. But ultimately your choice...

Entirely possible it would be done in time given the applicant is American.

We applied at the 10wk mark, when ServiceOntario tells people to apply. It took them almost 5 months to find it.

Oh, sorry. I didn't know they could process PR's in 3 months. My head must be stuck in European Inland. Thanks for pointing this out!

UGH!!!! Yeah, I really don't want to submit it without but time is ticking and I'm getting so nervous. I applied right after as well and it's been over 4 weeks now and NOTHING! I checked my status online and all is says is to please wait 10 weeks until after you get married to request one.

I'm going to call Service Ontario and see if they can give anymore of an update or if there is anything I can do. I would hate my application to be returned to me because of that. I just need of timeline of when it is coming before I rip all my hair out.

I also wouldn't recommend submitting it without your marriage certificate.

Hi, I think this should help you.

I'm the sponsor and my husband is American. We were married in April in Ontario. We submitted our application through an experienced immigration lawyer. The application was submitted with only a copy of our solemnization of marriage. I don't believe he even included a note about why the certificate wasn't included. The application was accepted as 'complete' and forwarded to CPC-Ottawa. Once it got to Ottawa, they did request the long form marriage certificate, and by that point it had finally arrived so we could send it. Our representative said he's had 3 requests in August for the long form certificate, so they are likely pushing to ensure applications are complete by asking for it. I would order both the certificate and long form, for this reason.

We ordered 6 weeks after being married. We didn't get it in the mail until mid-July (13 weeks total). I was calling them non-stop asking what was up, and they said that they had a heavy load and it was simply taking awhile to get everything in the system and sent out. If you call ServiceOntario before 10 weeks they'll just tell you to call back. If you call them after 10 weeks they can check in the system and see if your request is in process and if there are any issues.

So my 2 cents - send a copy of your solemnization of marriage. You can include an optional note if desired indicating that it's been ordered and you'll send it as soon as you get it. My representative did the same with our FBI and it was not a problem.

Inland, in general, tends to be slower, regardless of where the applicant is from.

This was your experience. The problem is that we have seen a few applications returned on this forum because the marriage certificate was missing. So what you did works for some but not for others. It's entirely up to the officer who processes the application.

You're right, just offering my suggestion based on my experience and the information provided to me by my representative. It's up to the OP what route she decides to go. Not saying it's my way or the highway, lol.

Yeah, thanks everybody!

I just don't want to have to wait the 13 weeks before I get it to submit my application! I guess I'll just see where I'm at with my application once my FBI clearance comes in next week and maybe submit it with the solemnization and maybe a print out of my bank statement showing I did pay for the marriage certificate and that I'm waiting for it to come in.

I only ordered the long form of it, so I hope that's ok...or should I order the short one too??

One more question! For people who managed to expedite the Ontario marriage certificate process, for your online status does it still state the "wait 10 weeks" blah blah even if it's actually been processed faster? or does it actually change and let me know it's in the mail?

I've faxed Thunder Bay a few times with no luck of hearing anything back and my online status still states to wait the full 10 weeks blah blah.
