marriage certificate - how long?

I got married aug 7, 2010. im just wondering how long it would take the agency to receive documents from my marriage commissioner and how long after can i order a copy?

where did you get married? I got married in new brunswick and I was able to use the copy I recieved on the day of the wedding as my official certificate. I would assume you can place an order for a certificate right away and if it is not ready yet you will just have to wait, but once it has been processes they should mail it right away.

We were wed in Ontario and they said it would take 12 weeks! However, I requested the file a couple of days after we were married and we got it in about 3 weeks. They will probably say you are applying too soon, but don't worry about it. It just means that as soon as they have your information from your marriage, they will send the official certificate.

I've been married twice in different state/provinces. Both times it took about a month to get my official marriage certificate copies. First time we did what jmni1 said - we had an order in and they shipped once they were ready. Second time my husband went into the vital records office and got them.

We got married April 17 (in ON) and it arrived a few days after we got back from our week long honeymoon. I got my officiant to allow me to courier the paperwork myself to the government office in Sudbury (I believe is the right office, sorry I forget) and along with it we sent a rush request due to immigration, no extra cost, just a letter requesting it quickly and they delivered.

err when we were married we registered the marriage, then went and got our cert straight away whilst we waited. Fin statistics canada building in your area take ID and fee and you should walk out with one after 10 minutes. Odd with the marriage comissioner we dropped the docs off ourself to register the marriage. Or maybe different for different provinces. Anyways i'm sure there's a legal time limit.

We've got married in Toronto on Feb, 20th. We ordered at the begging of May marriage certificate (it usually takes 8 weeks after marriage before you can order it). I was waiting for 2-3 weeks to receive it.

I got married in Ontario the first week of June. Applied for marriage cert. the third week of July. We received our marriage cert. in 3 days!

We were married March 27 in Ontario and waited OVER 12 weeks for the marriage certificate even though I requested that it be expedited. Send a fax to the Registrar of Ontario and address it to the Marriage Department or something similar. I'm sorry I no longer have a copy for the fax but if you call the number online you can inquire about this and they should be able to provide more details.

There have been many couples who supply the Record of Solemnization and proof that they have applied for the formal certificate and this is fine for CPC Mississauga as long as you detail that you will provide the formal cert. once it is received. I would recommend this as long as the rest of your immigration paperwork is in order (especially the state security checks for your partner) because you never know how long it may take (though I do see some people received theirs quickly!).
