marriage certificate error

have a question regarding my spouse sponsorship. we just recently got married on April 2014, and I would like to apply for him to come to Canada. My question is, we have a minor problem on our marriage certificate, we notice that my mom's citizenship is incorrect they put Filipino instead of Canadian, and if we get this amended in the Philippines, it will take over a year process with court settlement as well. I was wondering if this is really necessary to get corrected or will this have an affect on my spousal application.

Sorry, I'm not quite understanding. You are Canadian and your spouse is Filipino. Your marriage certificate from the Philippines states that your mother is Filipino instead of Canadian? If you're Canadian, then it shouldn't be a big deal if the marriage certificate states that your mum is Filipina.

Am I understanding this correctly?

Yes thats correct the error was on my mom's information and i just needed to know uf this will cause a problem if i file for his sponsorship. Do i need to notify CIC about the error?

I don't know for sure, but I really don't think it should affect the sponsorship. You could tell cic that you're applying to fix this error and also send a copy of your mum's birth certificate or citizenship to show that she is Canadian, to ease your nerves. The question, however, is do you qualify to sponsor your husband, which if you are Canadian (or even a Canadian PR) you do qualify, so I don't think it is anything that will affect your sponsorship.

the only "issue" i see is the obvious descrepency with the question that specifically asks about where your parents were born. while i don't think it will have an impact on your eligibility, i think what tink says is a good suggestion. explain the mistake, and include a copy of her birth certificate so they knwo you aren't "lying" on your application. since your parents are not being screened for eligibility, it really doesn't matter where they are from. the only person CIC really cares about is you.

Thank you very much! The only reason why i dont want this corrected because Philippine procedure takes a long time and expensive. We have to consult a lawyer..

Ridiculous that they make a mistake and you have to pay for it. But yes, for cic send an explanation and a copy of your mum's birth certificate. I don't think it should be a problem.

I have similar problem also but not the citizenship but the name. My hubby,s mom's name is Merlina and he wrote down Lina in our Marriage Certificate.She is dead already though long time ago. In aour application he wrote down Merlina. Will this be a problem??? for my applicatopn for PR? He was approved already for sponsorship.

It really won't matter. My husband's mother's birthday was wrong on his birth certificate, and we didn't even mention it, even though we wrote her correct birthday on the application form. He was approved for his visa in 3 months, including waiting for sponsor approval. So I really wouldn't worry about it. If you wish to send an email to the visa office explaining this you can, but I don't think it should matter much about the name/ nickname.

I have another question.. On our marriage certificate from philippines indicate our marriage license no and year of issued, but they made a clerical erro with the registration number and year of issue.. Instead of 2014 they put 2013 N marriage license number, they indicate the receipt number. Will this be a problem?
