Marital status question

Hi all,

I am sponsoring my partner to immigrate over to canada with me as a common-law partner. In a few of our forms it asks what our marital status is. Should we put single or common-law partner?

On my "Application to Sponsor and Undertaking" form on question 8.a) it asks for my marital status (should I tick the never married AND common-law or just the common-law box?

For my partner on her "Additional Family Information" form it asks for Marital status, should she put single or common-law?

Common-law. You're not eligible if you're single, so yes, definitely put common-law.

Yes, check both.


For my partner on her "Additional Family Information" form it asks for Marital status, should she put single or common-law?
Same as above. If you are single, then you are not, at least by CIC's definition in a common-law relationship. You want to be proving that you ARE common-law with your evidence. So first step is to declare that you are. Good luck.
