Hello everyone,

I recently submitted my express entry profile along with my husband as a dependent. My problem is that since getting married last year, I have not updated any of my IDs (though it's in the works). When I submitted my profile, my marital status was Common-Law. My plan was to submit an update to Married status via Web Form once my passport is updated and shows my married name already so I can do it all at once.

But now, I'm worried that that will come out as misinterpretation, if we ever receive an invitation :( I'm hoping someone can help confirm advise or me with my predicament. Should I just recreate my profile?

I can't help but worry.

Has anyone here gone through the same thing where they submitted an express entry profile and they did not update their marital status right away due to issues with the ID and all?

I appreciate any response that could help..

It may come out as misrepresentation because you will have to submit your marriage certificate which will have a date that pre-dates your application. However, points don't change between common-law and married, so it may not be a significant detail.

That being said, update the status now. You only need your marriage certificate. You don't need all your ID changed.

It does happen that married women keep their maiden names, so that being married without updated/name-changed IDs would be that big of an issue at the moment. What may be [a big issue] is claiming common-law when you’re married, as you may be aware. Can’t you update your profile anymore? If you can’t you can just withdraw the current one and make another profile.

There is no misrepresentation, as there is zero difference in points/eligibility between being common-law and married. You don't need to withdraw your profile. If and when you get an ITA, you just apply as married with a letter of explanation.

As said above, you don't need updated IDs in order to declare yourself as married. All you need in the marriage certificate.

That's what I ended up doing. Just going to bear with a small headache than deal with a bigger one, just in case.

I couldn't update it anymore, even before I submitted it. I ended up redoing it but it's okay
