Hello everybody,
I'm a canadian citizen, living in Montreal, Quebec. I'm getting married next week with a woman from Thailand, where I've spent half of my time these past 2 years. Once married, we will begin all the process for her to get her permanent residency in Canada, with me as the sponsor. But we have many questions as to how to procede.
We are currently in Thailand together and I'll be here until July, but I still reside in Montreal where my job is awaiting for me. Our initial plan is to do it from here (outland) and then to go live together in Canada while we wait for her PR, since she has a visitor visa valid for 5 years.
1- Will her visitor visa still be valid after her application for permanent residency?
2- With her visitor visa, all she'll have to do is to leave the country and come back every 6 months? Is spending a few hours in USA enough?
3- When she arrives at the airport, is there a chance her entry might be refused, despite her visitor visa? If she shows that she have a return ticket for 6 months later, is it enough? Should she tell that she's waiting for her permanent residency or it's better to keep it for ourselves?
I see that submitting the application outland, as we plan to do, takes 33 days for sponsorship + 28 months for PR through the Singapore office. But :
4- Considering that she is educated, has a good job in the banking industry, that I (the sponsor) also have a good situation, that the genuinity of our relationship is easy to prove (she already visited me in Canada, we made multiple trips together, have many pictures, emails, common spending, are married, etc.), could the PR application be much faster than 28 months? Is 28 months only an average?
5- Should we consider submitting her application INLAND instead? Sponsorship takes longer (7-8 months) but PR is much, much faster (8 months).
6- If we choose inland, so her country of residence HAVE TO be Canada? It means she can only come on a work permit?
7- Considering our whole situation, should be pick outland or inland if we want it to be as fast as possible?
8- She doesn't speak French yet, but she wants to learn (she already speaks very good English). Is there any French classes offered to PR applicants, even though she would be on a visitor visa?
Many questions, but obviously it's our first time being involved in such a process. And it's not that easy to find helpful ressources. I hope people here can help!
