I'm "Finally" ready to send off our application.

I'm headed to a Post Office Branch to send it away. I just need advice on how to send it.
I don't know if regular mail is the right way to go or is there a way to send it where the postman collects a signature to confirm it arrived.

As you all can understand I'm worried if the package were to get lost, although I have back ups, all my original forms and everything would be lost.....pretty much a disaster! haha

I noticed on the website there are 2 addresses...
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/canada/mississauga.asp

1 on the top for Common Law Spouse (which we're applying for)

and 1 at the bottom for courier.

I'm a bit confused as to which one is the better route to go.

Thanks everyone!

use a courier service for the address for courier, it worked fine for me.(UPS), just write spouse sponsorship on the envelop.

If you send it to the Robert Speck Parkway address (that is, send it commerical courier), you'll be able to get a signature when they deliver it. That's why the municipal address is there - because the couriers don't deliver to P.O. box addresses.

If you want to mail it to the P.O. box address, I suggest you do Priority Mail and thus use the tracking number on your receipt to log into Canada Post's tracking service on its site to verify it was delivered.

CPCM doesn't confirm receipt of applications. You hear from them once they approve the sponsorship portion of your application, which right now is running over two months, unforch :'( : http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-fc.asp

I wonder if they check/empty out the po box everyday...if not, then wouldn't the applications placed in the PO box first end up at the bottom of the pile?! Anyone know how often they pick up the parcels from the po box?

Also, if sent by courier, if you choose the option where signature is required, what happens if there isn't anyone there to sign? Would we be better off not requiring a signature to avoid having it be possibly delayed?

Unless the office is closed, there is always someone available to sign.

Use a courier, you want a signature as proof of delivery.

BTW the PO box is actually a lot of large mail bags.
The time of day that your package arrives really makes no difference in the grand scheme of things.

We sent ours registered mail. Overnight. We tracked it. It landed at the CIC office. THree months later, we called to find out it has been lost and yes, the original documents were in it. Yes, the FBI clearance has expired. Yes, I am more than deflated. I would have which ever of you is in Canada start calling within a week or two to make sure it was received.

So sorry to hear about that! Cannot believe that happened! Thanks for the advice, I will definitely be calling to double check now.

Does anyone know if the Canada Post Priority NextAM parcel service is the same as a courier service? (there is an option to make signature required in this case)

hey everyone, just wondering for the ones who sent the application by courier and it needed a signature to be delivered, who signed? for us it was just received but it's written "signed by mailroom"; when the medicals were received in London they were signed by a real person....::)

shoul i worry? :( thank u!! there was an old thread abt people saying who signed for them but long time ago....i remember they were saying real signatures) ::)
