Lost passport prior to travelling to Canada

Hello, I recently secured a 12 month Canadian work VISA through the IEC and CIC. I have now (stupidly) lost my British passport (my country of permanent residence). There's a chance it could still turn up though I've looked everywhere I could think of for it. Obviously it was that passport I used to get the VISA in the first place, and I still have the scans of it, but I figured if I need to get a new one before I enter the country the passport numbers, expiration date etc... aren't going to match, even if my personal details do. I tried looking on the CIC site for answers and couldn't find any, and tried to contact the London VISA application center but can't speak to them over the weekend, and I'm freaking out a little about it all. I had to use a letter of acceptance from the IEC to get the actual VISA and that is only good for so long before it expires, so I don't think I will have the time to apply all over again (and it has already been used once so I'm not sure I could even do it again if I wanted to). I was hoping there would be someone here who has more knowledge of the system who could give me a little help, let me know what steps I have to take and stuff? I'm not traveling out until August so hopefully I should have more than enough time to sort it out, but it's playing on my mind a lot and it would be awful if my carelessness meant I lost this opportunity.

Well it is only CIC that can help you. But this is for sure that you cannot travel without passport. At max may be you could get a new urgent passport, travel on it to Canada, since you do not need a visa being British to travel to Canada on visit (while may be if you submit a copy of your details that you have to CIC and get it stamped from them).

Again this is just speculation. I really don't know if their is any formal procedure that exists with CIC regarding this.
