Lost my passport

Hello Guys,

Just couple days back, I got my passport safely through one of my friend who was traveling back to India from US. I got everything planned. I was about to travel to Calgary on Jun 22nd and complete the immigration process. My wife & son will join me on Aug 16th and we got their tickets too. We have to complete our landing b4 Aug 25th, 2011 (1 year from our medicals).
I was on the verge of coming out of all the unfortunate things that happened to me in the last 2 yrs. Now another one just happened.
Yes, I lost my passport! I was going to bank today to exchange indian rupees to Canadian dollars. (for that we need passport). I went inside the bank and checked my folder, it was not there. My bad, I took the passport in a regular open yellow folder. its too late for ifs & buts...
Here is what I did so far, I registered a complaint with local police station. Only once they give a Non traceable certificate, then I can apply for duplicate passport. Once I apply it will take approx 3 months. Then I have to get the temporary visa to get into Canada.
(I am just hoping...someone would just post it back to the address on the passport..to my home!!!)

But, I am running out of time...As I mentioned earlier I have time only till Aug 24th, 2011 to complete our landing process.

Will they extend my temporary visa and landing deadline?
How long will it take to get the duplicate passport in India?

please advice.... what shall I do???

1. You won't get a temporary visa. You will have to contact the processing office that issued your COPR IMMEDIATELY and tell them the passport with the visa has gone missing. A new COPR will have to be issued. They won't extend your "landing" date.

I havent got any news on the lost passport yet...there is still hope that someone would post it to the address in my passport even next week.
but in the meantime, i doing all i can to get the replacement passport. i can apply for that once i get the non traceable certificate from the local police station. i will get the pre-verification certificate from my district police. with that i can apply for replacement pp next week it self. hope i will get it on 2 weeks. in short i can get a replacement pp with in june end.
thats half way done...
i have contacted cic, buffalo...but i havent heard anything from them...may be they will reply nxt week.
i dont know they will allow me get the temp visa & updated COPR in new delhi office itself?!?!
then i will have enough time to complete the landing formalities...
hope they agree for that...

Hi Procan,

In New Delhi and other passport offices you can go for Tatkal service where they charge you additional Rs1500 to the regular fee, which in your case would be Rs2500, and issue you a new passport in 3-5 working days. You will have to lodge a FIR in the police station for the lost passport and inform the CHC. I got my Passport in Tatkal and telling from experience, The Police verification will happen after the passport is issues and the Police can come after 3-4 weeks from you getting the passport. After you have new Passport, I am sure the CHC can issue a new COPR as mentioned earlier by PMM

Great News!!! I got my passport back.
It was found by a person who parked his motor bike near my car.
It seems he was trying to get hold of me in person instead of trying to send it by post or by any other means.

Now trying to intimate everyone about it.
So far, Buffalo office didnt even repsond.
anyways, I am not going to worry about it.
I will be in Calgary next week!!!
