Hi all

I unfortunately lost my job 4 months before going over, and about 5/6 months away from when I can put my spousal visa in.

I am having trouble getting work after 1 month of looking and may now need to sign on to job seeker's allowance and housing rent benefits.

Will this affect my application?

EDIT: I forgot to mentioned that when I am talking about claiming welfare/benefits...I mean from the UK govt before I leave to go to Canada. Not claiming off the Canadian govt.

You can sign to EI, that's not welfare, so that's OK.
I'm not sure about house rent benefits : if it's classified as "income assistance" then it will make you ineligible to sponsor. But EI is fine.
Good luck,
Sweden

Thank you for the quick response.

Are you the applicant or the sponsor?

If you are the applicant - then this doesn't matter and will have no impact on the application.

If you are the sponsor - it might have an impact.

You are referring to benefits through the UK. That has no bearing on Canada. You just can't claim them here (Canada) and nor can your spouse.
